Pink ribbon classic golf tournament donates $5,225

Fifty-two golfers showed up for the Pink Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament held on Sunday, Oct. 16 to support the fight against cancer and to have a good time. The Tournament has been active for years, but several years ago the focus changed from the proceeds going to a national organization to keeping the funds local.

The Lake Chelan Golf Course and the Soroptimist Club organized the Pink Ribbon Classic which takes place the day after the Chelan Chase, both events supporting the Mammography Department at the Lake Chelan Community Hospital, to help ensure that women who who are uninsured or under-insured can get a mammogram.

And a portion goes to The Wellness Place in Wenatchee, a nonprofit that provides support to all cancer patients across North Central Washington. Just some of their services include providing free wigs, head coverings, nutritional supplements, travel assistance for treatments, classes and more.  The event made $5,225 this year!

Von and Cindi Smith won low gross, and Pam Zent and her grandson, Trent Zent, won low net.

Organizer Pam Zent sends “a huge thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated raffle and auction items and thank you also to the volunteers and golfers who supported the cause.”

Special thanks to Mark Lawrence, assistant golf pro, and Nicole Provence from City Course Grill for donating their time and talents. Pam also thanked her co-organizers, Gail Bender and Janet Foyle. Soroptimist members Betty Budnick, Sandra Danke, Sandi Gruenberg, Joan Nolan, and Marilyn Strickwerda also were instrumental in the success of the Pink Ribbon Classic golf Tournament.
