LIGHTS OF LOVE
A Holiday Tradition Continues... Donations given to Guild B’s Light of Love program throughout the year make a big difference at Lake Chelan Community Hospital, helping purchase necessary medical equipment to improve quality of care. In addition, thousands of beautiful lights make your community hospital shine each holiday season.
Lights of Love donations may be given:
•In honor or memory of a loved one •As a friend of the hospital •To recognize anyone for a job well done •As a special holiday or “anytime” gift
All Lights of Love gifts are tax deductible, and 100 % of the proceeds go directly to support your community hospital. Each of your gifts will be acknowledged, and notification is sent to the honoree or their family, if you wish. You can also mail donations to PO Box 2177, Chelan, WA 98816.
Forms or information can also be obtained by calling chairperson Meredith Beeson at 509-682-1056 and/or by mailing a request to PO Box 2177, Chelan. Memorials can be made at any time during the year, but November through January is the season for "Lights of Love," when we see the lights sparkling on the hospital. Donations need to be received by December 10 for holiday notification.

How did Lights of Love Begin? by Guild B member Bernie Langton
Lake Chelan Community Hospital Guild B started Lights of Love in 2005. It came about from a conversation I had with a new friend from Syracuse, New York. We were both playing golf in Palm Desert, and we were talking about the activities we had been involved in since retirement. We discovered we both belonged to hospital guilds.
My friend explained to me that they sold strings of Christmas lights in memory of someone near to them and decorated their hospital each year. I mentioned our Guild B home tour, and she was impressed.
When I got home, I could just see our round Lake Chelan hospital lit up during the holidays. I was president of Guild B at the time, and I knew I had a "selling job" to do with our ladies. As it turned out, after some thought and great support from Betty Mollet, who volunteered to be the chairperson, it all came together. Past hospital administrator Larry Peterson was our greatest supporter.
Guild B voted to purchase the rope lights and lighted trees, which we purchased with a lot of coupons. It was quite an undertaking getting the lights in place that first year. We had great cooperation from the maintenance staff at the hospital, as we have every year since.
Now, every November, before Thanksgiving, our members and husbands get together and decorate the grounds of the Lake Chelan hospital.
The purpose of Lights of Love is for the community to donate funds in memory of a loved one or a special event like graduation - or as a thank you for a job well done. Our funds purchase needed equipment for the hospital. Lights of Love funds purchased three telemedicine monitors now in place at Lake Chelan Community Hospital.
We have a book in the foyer with the names of every donation - and purpose of that donation. Guild B member Peach Simonds now does the calligraphy for that beautiful book, which was donated by Precht-Rose.
Lights of Love has turned out to be a community tradition. Many hours of work, lights and love have come out of a simple conversation on the golf course. We had so much encouragement from the staff and administration; it made it a fun project.
We hope to continue to "light up" our hospital with generous contributions from the community, so that we will be able to purchase much-needed medical equipment.
What is so great is that the hospital employees really look forward to the lighting of the hospital each holiday season.
